24 hour TT championships July 26/27th

The Derby section has 4 members riding this weekend's event.

Jim Hopper, Steve Massey, Peter Turner & Mark Gray ( Derby Mercury &  long distance audax rider)

I don't know if this is a record but if anyone doesn't want to do DJ's China Run/Teapot why not come along and offer your support & encouragement.

The best place to watch is Prees Heath just off the Whitchurch bypass (A41/49) as the riders pass it on both main circuits used during the event.

China Run and China Tea Pot Audaxes July 26th 2008, You did them last year do you want to do them in 2008?

I have had only one entry from the Derby section for the China Run and one for the China Tea Pot.

I am ordering Brevet Cards on Monday based on the number of riders entering. If you are hoping to ride one of these events I need your entries by then please. For the entry form: www.audax.uk.net Calendar click on the event and them print off and send the entry form.

However because I am so nice, If you send me an email confirmation that you would like to ride I will order a Brevet Card for you. Please put the relevant ride in the Subject Line e.g. China Run or China Tea pot. Then it will not be seen as spam. You will still need to fill in an entry form.

DRIVING TO YORK RALLY?

If you're driving to York Rally and have some space in your car, would you mind carrying some camping kit back to Derby?

A few of us are doing a couple of hostels on the way home and would prefer not to be carrying camping kit.  Contact Ian, Phil or Paul if you can help.

THE GREAT NOTTINGHAMSHIRE BIKE RIDE 2008

As you are probably aware, this is an annual charity ride organized by Nottinghamshire County Council with rides of 50 miles and 18 miles, and has been run for a good number of years now.

This year, however, they have included a 100 mile sportive ride, going out to Newark as the 50 mile ride, then heading north, returning to join the 50 mile ride at Southwell for the homeward leg.  This event is scheduled for 22 June 08, and I know that a good number of our members will be going to the York rally but not all, and it would be useful to see if there is any interest in this local sportive event and if so, whether people would rather ride as individuals, or ride as a club.  I have a little bit of information, but the event website is www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/bikeride for the full gen.

I have half a mind to do the sportive anyway, but if there is interest from others it may just tilt the balance in favour.

Does anyone else want to go to the Manchester Velodrome to watch the World Championships?

They are on from March 26th -30th.

Last year a group of us went to watch the World Cup event and the atmosphere was great and it can only get better for the Worlds especially as it precedes the Olympics this year.

If you have never watched a track race meeting, this is a great opportunity to watch the best riders in the world battling it out.

Let me know so we can arrange tickets and transport etc.

cheers

Peter

From Pete Rose. Added 3rd Dec

Thanks to Ian Alexander for organising another skittles evening at the Clock Warehouse at Shardlow. This time despite a refurbishment of the skittles ally we had to play with only one ball ( we had two last time we played there ) . The Burton team was one person short so we had to have one person  on a rotational basis bowling twice on each game. We would have had equal numbers if  Morris hadn’t left early because of the limited beer range etc. Derby had the big hitters scoring double figures on their winning games. The final score was a close one though Derby winning three games to Burton’s two. I am sure Burton will do well on home soil, with better beer for Morris at the Bridge Brewery in Burton in the new year, with our new skittles & three balls guaranteed.

Dear Derby CTC'ers,

I am trying to distribute news of the forthcoming East Midlands Cycle Jumble. It is being held at Radcliffe Scout Hall (behind SPAR) on 1st Dec 2007 at 10am

We have got sellers from all over the country and a massive variation from 10p  bins to discounted NOS, classic bikes, frames to build up into that bike of your childhood dreams, transfers, cycling books, bike memorabilia etc. etc.

The funds raised are for the Radcliffe Scouts and Wish upon a star charities.

TOUR de FRANCE 2008

Wasting my time yesterday looking at the net, I see that the first three stages of the 2008 TdF are:  Brest to Plumelec 5 Jul, Auray to St Brieuc 6 Jul, St Malo to Nantes 7 Jul.  Notwithstanding the Easter trip next year back to St Anne de Auray, that would seem to be a good base for a long weekend to get a flavour of the Tour, whilst giving the opportunity for another visit to a good touring area.
Suggestions that come first to mind are:  watch the finish in Plumelec, watch the Depart the next day in Auray and, if possible with car assist, maybe see another bit of the route later, see bit of the route to Nantes, then dive into a suitable bar to watch the finish on TV.  Possible itinerary could be; either o/night to St Malo, or morning to Cherbourg on Sat 5 Jul, then return Tuesday 8 Jul.  If anyone is interested can they let me know please because if there is any serious interest, then we may have to do some early work on hotel booking and ferry booking.
You will realise that this is just a very early check on interest.  No idea what the money will be or exactly which roads the Tour will follow, all that to come later.

Congratulations to Jenny and Dave Lees

Jenny gave birth to a baby girl just after 7am on Tuesday 23rd October in the central delivery suite of the Derby City Hospital.  Charlotte Amber Lees weighed a mighty 9lbs 8oz.  Jenny arrived home on Thursday. Mother and baby are doing fine, but the housework (including dusting the carbon bike) is already tiring out Charlotte's dad.
